Since 1970, January has been declared National Volunteer Blood Donor month. January in particular can be a challenging month for donors to give, as the inclement weather can make it difficult to arrive at scheduled appointments. However, the need for blood does not change. According to the American Red Cross, “hospital patients nationwide need about 44,000 blood donations daily for cancer care, surgeries, and the treatment of serious diseases and trauma.”
Nearly 11 million people give blood every year, are you one of them?
