There's completely inadequate support to get job done. Everyone is so overwhelmed by workload that collaboration is impossible.
Every so often JHH administration makes changes that impact us as employees. Most if not all of these changes narrow our options and what little flexibility we have but increase our responsibilities. Parking rates have gone up by 100%, recent uniform changes limit our scrub tops to unisex tops, fabric is of such poor quality that they rip at the seams. We are penalized twice if we have a sick day, by making it an occurrence and charging our vacation bank. We have double occurrence if we call out before a scheduled holiday. Yet administration is surprised that the employee engagement survey scores are flat. Hhmmm
Frequent frustration over just getting my job done keeps me from feeling enthusiastic and motivated. When those who have answers refuse to communicate, and others "work to rule" refuse to do anything outside of strict guidelines, I can't get my job done. Then I face being asked why things didn't get done, and look like I'm making excuses. I have to use two computers (one Mac & one Win) because some applications are platform dependent, and don't always get IT support for my equipment, because it doesn't fall within the narrow realm of IT responsibility (but am discouraged from doing any repairs by myself, because I might "break" something).
Lead, Follow, or Get Out Of The Way!
Totally agree that communication is a very big problem here at JHH in certain departments. How are you expected to get a job done if there is no communication. You are afraid to help out your co-workers because you may tell them the wrong thing just because it was not communicated at all.
Staffing issues continue to be a problem at JHCP along with the frustration of budget cuts and staff reductions. I hope that management understands that as we face all of the forthcoming changes in healthcare that patients are looking for continunuity and enough staff with specific Epic training to meet their needs.
