My mother's side of my family gathers for a family reunion each year on the first Saturday of July. When I was younger, and the family wasn't quite so scattered, we held the reunion on the 4th of July. It's a huge picnic affair with as many as 200 people attending. These days we rent a pavilion at a park near where I was born, and where many family members still live. Many people travel long distances for the weekend to catch up and re-connect (and to get to know those who have either been born into the family or have married into the family since the last time they were able to attend).
I hope to be able to attend again this year.
I love grilled foods with the family and watching the fireworks. Hate the crowds... but love the fireworks.
