September is Fruits and Vegetables More Matters Month – which promotes the importance of having more fruits and vegetables in our everyday diet. Where do you go to pick up produce for you and your family? Do you shop at the nearest grocery store? Do you grow your own? Perhaps, you make a trip during or after work to a local farmer’s market or one at your organization, such as the Johns Hopkins Hospital Farmer’s Market.

I try to shop at many different vegetable/fruit stand around my area in North AA Co and on trips to the Eastern Shore.
The 83 market (below the bridge) on Sundays is the place to be. I have shopped there many, many years! Fortunately for the farmers it has become increasingly popular! Besides, where else can you buy fresh food and then have barbecue, breakfast, mushrooms, Indian food, crepes, thai food, organic rolls, blacksause biscuits and wash it all down with Zeke's coffee....to name a few of my favorites.
I have also used One Straw Farm, but my options were limited to what came "pre-packaged." The produce was divided between all the members of the co-op in equal amounts. (It was in bins, and we were allowed to pick one of this, one of that, etc. - if we didn't want something, we skipped it, but we weren't allowed to take more than our share - i.e. we couldn't take two of one thing if we were skipping something else.) - I found I was getting produce I couldn't use (my family didn't like it). It's been much more efficient for me to just buy what I need from the local stores & markets.
This Spring I purchased a half share in Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) from One Straw Farm. I pick up my share at the Waverly Farmers' Market on Saturday mornings from June through September. I can select 4 items from a variety of fresh produce. There has been delicious corn, tomatoes, lettuce, watermelon, green beans, onions, potatoes, cantalope, etc. I sometimes shop at the grocery store for fruit, but the farmers' market, at least during the summer and fall, is where I get the vast majority of vegetables.
