I power walk every day after I eat my lunch and have been doing this for about 4 years. It is a shame to waste all the East Baltimore real estate!! I incorporate inclines by utilizing Monument and Orleans street. On bad weather days - I walk inside the buildings and incorporate the stairs several times. On the weekends - it is mostly housework and other chores.
I'm trying out the Wellnet gym at JHBMC for a month and trying to use it on my lunch break. I also like to exercise in the morning before work by going for a jog.
I live about 1.5 miles south of the Charles @ Baltimore St. metro subway station. Most mornings I walk from my home to the subway (taking 20-30 minutes, depending on traffic lights). And I've recently incorporated using the steps when I can (up one flight or down two flights - trying to work up to walking up two flights & always walking down the steps). It's sometimes difficult, especially if you're really in a hurry, to take that many steps up. Walking is free (but I'm trying to get my husband to agree to joining a gym with a pool, so I can try to stay active even when the weather won't cooperate).
I walk for about 20 minutes in the morning and during my lunch hour. If the weather is nice, I walk outside, and if not, I walk inside. If I'm walking inside, I walk up the steps from the outpatient center to make it more of a challange. I walk on the weekends to, if the weather and my schedule allow for it. Walking is free, so I don't need to pay for a gym.
I take the stairs at least 3 times a week. 🙂 I am not alone. Many of my colleagues do also. I see some of them every day!
Yes! I take the stairs every single time unless I'm loaded down with equipment. I see everyone else taking the elevaors and escalators when they could get a quick workout for free. Why would any ambulatory person choose to take the escalator??! Taking the stairs is faster as well.
As a ful time employee during the day and a part time student in the evenings it is very hard to incorporate my school schedule once the semester had started and still maintain a fitness lifestyle. I do try to keep it simple the first week school starts with just taking a brisk 30 minute walk during my lunch break. The following weeks of the semester I try to incorporate an early morning cardio at the gym about 3-4 days a week. Plus my food choices are healthier and full of vegetables and fruit to keep me alert throughout my long days of work and school.
