"If I had known then, what I know now..."
Part of growing up is learning lessons and applying them as you go on in life. As wide-eyed kids out of school, we might think we know everything we need to know entering our career pathway, but quickly learn there's so much more. Of all of the lessons you have learned, what is the one thing you wish you had known before you started your career? Would that knowledge have taken you on a different path? Leave a comment and share your answer to today's Question of the Week!

Not to wait to so long to get my Masters. I should have finished that yrs ago.
Shift work isn't optimal for mental or physical health. You don't have to take a job just because someone needs help. The degree makes a huge difference.
How it would end.
I wish I would have had the courage to follow my heart and do what I really wanted to do, instead of settling for a job that paid the bills. I accepted a job at Hopkins primarily due to wanting to help my children get through college; I stayed here because I wanted to complete my own education. However, I chose courses that fit my occupation instead of my dreams, and now I have a fairly stable occupation, but my dreams are gathering cobwebs.
I wish I had known that a career in academic science would stimulate my mind but leave me locked in the trenches of lower middle class with no opportunity to significantly improve my earning potential. We scientists are as driven and intelligent as all the physicians (they practice what we discover) and just as hard working but we get paid two-to-ten times less. It isn't all about money but money and feeling appreciated matter. I think all people feel this way. I should have become a veterinarian so I can serve those I love best, make a little more money and not be viewed as a "geek" by society.
I wish I would have known more about other career opportunities in the healthcare field. I wish I had of done a little more research. As a child we often only hear of doctors and nurses. However, there are so many more members to the patient care team. It would be nice if they were given more spotlight.
How expensive college is!!!
HOW FAR TECHNOLOGY HAS COME.......
I wish I had known that my pay grade for the rest of my career is largely dependent on how much I was paid at my first job. Negotiate your salary at your very first job, because I promise you it will impact your future pay grade.
I wish I would have known that it is better to buy a house immediately out of the gate and safe for retirement. I can't go back and do it all over again.
