Last week, Time Magazine's annual Person of the Year was revealed to be "the Ebola fighters", those throughout the world that have helped fight the outbreak of the Ebola disease. If JHM's publication, Dome, were to select a Person of the Year from Johns Hopkins Medicine, who you would nominate to receive this distinction and why?
The floor is yours, so choose anyone from JHM that you feel deserves the recognition as the Person of the Year.

To go along with Time's choice, every person in the organization who rallied to ensure we are prepared to safely and effectively care for an Ebola patient should the need arise. This was an issue that involved just about every staff member at all of our hospitals and each person rose to the occasion. From HEIC, nursing, CEPAR, faculty and physicians and the Armstrong Institute to business leaders, environmental services, radiology, IT, HR and marketing and communications, everyone pitched in and created a plan and an environment where each patient, visitor and staff member will be protected.
I would select Dean Paul B. Rothman as person of the year. I know this sounds cheesey, so please hear me out. In his state of Johns Hopkins Medicine address in January 2014, Dean Rothman said "no money, no mission". That message applies to every employee, contractor, and temporary worker in our organization, everyday. We are all responsible for the JHM tripartite mission of eduation, research, and patient care. We can all support that mission by practicing fiscal responsibility when completing day to day tasks. By doing so, we ensure that the necessary resources be they funding for research, or advanced education for a care provider, is available should someone we love seek patient care at a JHM entity.
