The workplace is a prime location to meet people and develop relationships, and a number of faculty and staff met their spouses at Johns Hopkins. Whether it was at work or school, through a blind date or online dating service or during a social event, we invite you to post how you met your husband, wife or "significant other." Feel free to share a photo.

I met my husband at the age of 12. He was my first boyfriend. I moved away from our neighborhood and he kept in touch with my mother throughout the years. He and I got back together a few weeks shy of my 19th birthday, we were married 10 days before my 24th birthday and now we've been married for 16 years. He was and still is my very best friend. From our blissful union we have 2 beautiful children (both girls 23 and 9).
12 years later...see pic
I met my husband at the National Naval Medical Center in 2008. I never thought in a million years that I would ever date someone that I worked with nether-the-less marry him. But in June of 2012, I married the most wonderful man in the whole entire world. A man who is able to calm my soul, who loves me, prays for me, protects me, and inspires me every single day. He is my best friend, and I couldn't be any more grateful or blessed to have met such an amazing guy!!!
I met my husband through my now Sister in law. She and I used to work together and she would always tell me that she wanted me to meet her brother. A few months, maybe a year went by and we never mentioned anymore about it. Well in 2005 their grandmother passed away and I took his niece down to the hospital to be with their family and that's where we met. I took one look at him and thought to myself.... that is one handsome man! Although, it wasn't under the best circumstances I'm sure glad we did. We met in 2005 and will be celebrating our one year anniversay on September 14th, 2013. I love me some him.
My husband and I were introduced to one another by my college roommate (who also works for JH) during the summer of 2004 during a false fire alarm outside of our apartment. They became instant friends after being paired together for a class project. They were returning from a movie and everyone was outside at 12:30am. I was dating someone at the time and I had no interest in him, but he thought I was cute. A few weeks later, my boyfriend and I broke up and my now-husband asked my roommate about me again. She thought we would be great together so the three of us went to a movie. Within a week, he and I started hanging out alone (all apart of her plan). We shared many things in common and could talk for hours about anything. We went to lunch together, shopping, dinner, movies -- we were inseparable. It took nearly a year for us to make it "official", but we have been joined at the hip every since. We will be celebrating our 3 year wedding anniversary at the end of this month, and our first and only child (so far!) celebrated her first birthday last month. I sure am glad I broke it off with the ex when I did. I truly believe God sent him to me because I had no reason to look for him, and he just appeared without warning and rocked my world!
My boyfriend and I were actually supposed to be just roommates. It was nice because we have lived together our entire relationship (with the exception of 3 weeks) and got the opportunity to be friends first. 41/2 years later, we're still going strong, still in love, and still best friends!
I met my fiancé working as a medical interpreter for him in Clinic and we are getting married next year!!
I met my husband in church. We actually "met" in the adult Sunday School class where he was one of the instructors. It was a very different way for me to meet someone. I had a feeling that he was interested when he kept staring at me...It was very interesting to say the least...but I'm so glad I did!!! We celebrate our 2nd anniversary next month. 🙂
It was a long line of introductions. My husband and brother worked together to renovate a neighbor's home, and also played together in an amateur bluegrass band. First we met at a neighborhood square dance, then I discovered he had noticed me around the neighborhood with my two kids (I was divorced), then he was convinced to buy the last ticket to my nephew's boy scout dance if I would be his date. The final "introduction" came at a local New Year's party when someone was teasing me about not having a date and I responded with "I'm going to fix that when I go hear the band and pick up Jim." So we tease about how I picked him up at the bar on New Year's Eve.
Denny and I worked together for a manufacturing company near BWI airport; had started there in 1995 within 6 months of eachother and became fast friends. Both married to different people at the time. Five years later, unknown by either of us, we were both experiencing tumultuous times in our separate marriages. He came to see me in my office after work on the day of my birthday (which my husband had forgotten about) to give me a present. During his visit we talked about "stuff" we'd never shared before......the hours passed. We both made separate (and very private) decisions to separate and end our marriages that fall. I was busy the following Spring clearing some of my property one weekend when he stopped by to say hello and stayed to help. The rest is history. We built a house together the following year, lived together for 5 years and were married the Spring of 2007. We've been friends for 18 years; he is my rock, my "plan B", and together we have worked our way through many obstacles (family related, health related, etc.), and are stronger together today because of our journey. He still works at the manufacturing company, from which I moved on in 2005.
I met my wife Karen at Baltimore Pride in 2005 during RuPaul's performance of "You Better Work." I bet we're one of the only straight couples in Baltimore that can say that. 🙂
I met my husband when he became a "2nd career" radiology student at the age of 45! I've been a x-ray tech for 30 years at that point, we didn't start dating until he graduated the program and have been together ever since!
I met him on Match.com
I meet my husband of 21 years in middle school, on the first day of 7th grade (I was 11 at the time). According to my hubby and my mother-in-law, when he got home from school that same day he told his mom that he had met his future wife. Many years later his prediction happily came true 🙂
We met in nursing school. We got stuck together as community health partners and had to visit families together.
Match maker, match maker..make me a match 🙂 I met my husband through his Aunt in Florida.
For years....she said she wanted me to meet him and told him the same thing. Finally we did. There was a long distance relationship for about 2-3 years, got married June 20, 1999. Fourteen years later and three kids later...it's all good 🙂
