I have always had to watch what I eat and exercise to not gain weight. The last 3 years the unwanted weight has crept up on me even though I was exercising 3-4 times a week with the P90X and Insanity DVDs. I even joined a boot camp and was working out harder than ever. In February my boot camp coach encouraged us to try the Whole 30 Challenge which I followed for 3 days. It was the easiest and most successsful weight loss and actual body fat loss I have ever accomplished. I was at a point in my life to try something new. It sounds hard to give up alcohol, sugar, dairy and wheat for 30 days but it decreased my cravings, especially for sweets and I found myself eating when my stomach told me to eat and not my mouth. I love eating meats, fish, eggs, veggies, sweet potatoes, avocado, fruit, and nuts! I have kept the weight off for 4 months now. I enjoy the "bad" food occassionally and then go back to the Whole 30 food items for maintenance.

I have been on a nutrinarian diet, per Dr. Joel Fuhrman's Eat For Life program. My BMI has dropped from 30 to 27. Weight from 220 to 193, Cholesterol from 212 to 133. Stopped using lantus insulin all together (from 45 units BID to 00), My energy is throught the roof. My B/P medication has been cut in half. And, all this within 2 months.

I am decreasing my sugar intake, no diet sodas or any soda pop, am limiting sugary snacks. I eat lots of fruits and vegetables. Working on an exercise program at a local gym and follow a Weight Watcher-type plan and I walk as much as possible.

I'm curious as to how simply being vegitarian or vegan can be considered a healthy lifestyle. It IS possible to eat the "wrong" foods as a vegitarian or not enough of the "right" foods and not get the proper proportions of nutrients on any diet.

I have always watched what I eat. Over 20 years I have eaten Fish, Chicken and a vegan diet. Have cut out lot's of sugar and starches. Watched my Wine or Beer intake. Excerise, Garden, reading, music, meeting new people, helping people, Church, Community, family. Continued Education where I thought would help myself or others in many ways. I am Thankful for my support system that has been in my life past and present.
